About Us

We're The Brown Bag Bistro, and we've been a leading American-style restaurant here in Alton, IL, since 2018. We have been helping our customers enjoy food that is both scrumptious and popular for more than five years. We offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and other delicious foods. Our desserts include cheesecake and ice cream to satisfy even the most critical sweet tooth. Our beer and wine selection make us one of the top places in Alton for those looking for a night out on the town. Our Story

Co-owners and mother-daughter team Chris and Erin Velloff started Brown Bag Bistro together in 2018. Chris had a lifelong dream of opening her own restaurant and after her daughter, Erin, graduated college, they decided to take the risk together. Brown Bag Bistro has been providing their local community with delicious food and friendly service ever since!

We’re a family-owned and operated business that makes fresh and consistent sandwiches that are unlike any of our competitors! Our made-to-order sandwiches are completely unique, so stop by Brown Bag Bistro for a one-of-a-kind eating experience. Our menu also includes soups, salads, appetizers, and desserts like ice cream and cheesecake. We also have a beer and wine selection that makes us the best place in town for a night out!

First time here! Mom had the Sammy Roo, me and my brother both had the Triple Decker with au jus. Best sandwiches we all have had in a very long time! Mac and cheese was so delicious and so was the broccoli cheddar soup. Slaw was pretty good. Needed more seasonings maybe. But otherwise, we think BBB is the best sandwich shop around town!

Food is AMAZING, to say the least. A favorite for sure. Very busy on the weekend, sometimes the wait for food can stretch into an hour, but definitely worth the wait. Food came out hot and fresh. The building is very cozy and beautiful. Outside seating is available along with plenty of on street parking.

I usually get my order to go. I take it to work and have lunch. They are so kind to have it ready for me when I need it...great food...great service and large portions. Love the Rug Rat and the Chicken Salad.

The food is delicious - full of flavor and really great. The staff is wonderful, but don't be on a rush! The Brown Bag Bistro is almost always super busy (for good reason - it's that great), and each sandwich, salad & dish is prepared when ordered, so it takes some time. Inside is quaint for eating in - but it gets a little crowded. The multi-level outdoor patio has plenty of seating and a wonderful, relaxing ambiance. The only reason for 4 stars is that the wait times can sometimes just be too long for me (I get hangry easily) - but the food is 5+ stars for sure!!
